Charming Summer Trend – 3D Flowers

The message is loud and clear: 3D flowers are the top trend for spring-summer 2024! From clothing to accessories, we are bravely keeping up with fashion and filling ourselves with a playful, floral mood.

Looks with appliqués and skilful work in the form of floral petals, macro and micro floral patterns shine on the catwalks - for those who are ready for bold experimentation, and for those who prefer a more restrained style. Romantic? Yes, but it doesn't have to be. This trend can be bold and feminine by saying yes to colours on clothes: voluminous petals spread across the silhouette for a dramatic effect.

Wearing clothes with flowers in spring is nothing groundbreaking, as Miranda Priestly pointed out in The Devil Wears Prada, but this season it's not about prints, it's about real gardens blooming on clothes. The Spring/Summer 2024 floral trend has already blossomed in a new way.

Take a look at one of the first images from the third season of And Just Like That, where Carrie Bradshaw appears in a Simone Rocha Spring-Summer 2024 sheer tulle dress adorned with large 3D flower appliqués. The Loewe Spring-Summer 2024 show focused on tops with Swarovski 3D flower appliqués, reminiscent of Christmas decorations. A similar effect was created by the boneless bra with appliquéd flowers designed by Virginie Viard for Chanel Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2024, combined with a fluttering tulle maxi skirt.

Marni's eco-collection presented in Paris attracted attention with clothes made of tin cans with 3D drawn flowers. Meanwhile, Olivier Rousteing, Balmain's creative director, presented a spring/summer collection centred on the rose, repeated on clothing and accessories, from bags to shoes. The voluminous flowers, made from recycled materials, are abundant on bodices, skirts, shorts, mini and maxi dresses.

Giambattista Valli is known for his luxurious and romantic dresses. The 2024 spring/summer collection features dresses with voluminous floral appliques that add dynamism and elegance to his creations.

Fashion house Alexander McQueen presented a collection with an emphasis on dramatic floral elements. 3D flowers adorn dresses and suits, giving them a unique and extravagant look. It is worth noting the Tudor Rose voluminous jewellery in the form of a pendant and ring.

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana also used voluminous floral appliqués in their collection, continuing their tradition of colourful and painterly looks. The Dolce & Gabbana Spring-Summer 2024 collection is full of colour (even on the shoes), creating a spectacular and memorable style.

Pierpaolo Piccioli, already the former creative director of Valentino, included many 3D floral elements in the spring-summer collection. These details add romance and modernity to his models, turning each outfit into a work of art.

Sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy emphasised large floral appliqués to adorn their intricate and richly decorated outfits. Their Rodarte collection shows a combination of theatricality and femininity.

Oscar de la Renta's outfits, especially for the red carpet, are often adorned with flowers, e.g. Kerry Washington in a customised deep V-neck dress in shades of deep plum and lavender. She is followed by a train of hand-dyed satin and velvet embellished with pearl orchids. Another example is the cocktail dress from the spring/summer collection with poppies, created from hand-painted organza petals.

This season, designers and fashion houses are demonstrating that floral appliques and 3D flowers can be just as impactful and eye-catching in men's fashion as they are in women's, offering new ways to express yourself and style.

Belgian designer Dries Van Noten is known for his unique prints and textures. His spring/summer 2024 menswear collection sees the use of voluminous floral elements that add playfulness and vibrancy to the models.

Kim Jones, creative director of Dior's men's collections, also used floral motifs, adding 3D flowers and appliqués to jackets, shirts and accessories. Spectacular and elegant looks combine classic and modernity.
