Águeda López: "My family is my equator and that's where I get my strength from"
Águeda López is a popular model, celebrity, influencer, happy wife of the famous singer of the «Despacito» hit Luis Fonsi since 2014, mother of two, as well as the muse of renowned designers like Juana Martin, Giannina Azar and Dolce & Gabbana. Águeda’s Instagram account (@aguedalopez) has 1,6 mln followers. They, just like us, have a lot of questions for this charming woman.
Águeda, we are glad to welcome you to L’Officiel Latvia Fashion News. Let’s talk about your recovery as a model. You started your career in professional ballet. How close are these two areas and how did dancing help you achieve your career as a top model?
I was born and raised in a very small town and dance was the only option I had when it came to arts. My father drove me to the city everyday so I could take my dance lessons. One day I noticed a group of tall, beautiful girls who were going to a modeling academy. At that time I collected pictures of the top models of the 90’s, I admired them so much. I secretly wanted to be them so I convinced my parents to take me to modeling classes instead of dancing. That’s when it all started.
Tell us about that moment in your life when you realized that modeling was your calling?
I was very young and shy, but the moment I stepped on the runway I felt confident and powerful. I realized this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
Have you seen the fate of your life? If yes, tell us about the most fateful moment in your career?
The most fateful moment of my life was undoubtedly when I made the decision to move to Miami. It completely changed the course of my life, introducing me to new opportunities, experiences, and people that have shaped who I am today.
You conquered the catwalks of Paris and New York, in your opinion, what is the most substantial difference between European and American fashion weeks?
European and American fashion weeks each have their own distinctive styles and vibes. European fashion weeks, like those of Paris, Milan, and London, often showcase high-end luxury brands and avant-garde designs, with a focus on craftsmanship, innovation, and artistic expression. American fashion weeks, particularly in cities like New York, tend to highlight a mix of commercial viability, street style trends and diversity.
Let’s talk about the behind the scenes of big shows — you participated in the Dolce & Gabbana Show, Giannina Azar and Juana Martin, what is the main secret of the model in winning the attention of the audience?
Always stay classy. The designs deserve the best attitude and respect from the model. We can’t forget that there is a lot of hard work behind the haut couture designs. It’s art.
You grew up in Spain in a country of passionate temperament and hot sun. How did your Spanish origin affect the development of you as a person?
Spanish people are happy and outgoing. We take any oppor-tunity to celebrate and dance, drink or sing. The Mediterranean character is strong and powerful but also very joyful. I’m a proud Spanish. I deeply love my country.
Now you are not only a successful model, but also a happy wife of a famous artist and performer. Is it difficult to be the wife of an artist with worldwide fame?
It’s easier than you think. We’re a family, we’re a team. I support him in everything he does, he supports me in everything I do. We have a good sense of balance between family and career and that keeps us focused. Family always comes first and that’s our motto. I admire him so much for everything he’s acomplished in life and he’s an inspiration for us.
Let’s talk about how you met your husband, how did you understand that this was not just a fan, but that you wanted to start a family with this person?
We met at a photo shoot 14 years ago. A mutual friend at the time introduced us and we became friends. We started to get to know each other and realized we had a million things in common, same life philosophy, same pet peeves, same silly humor, so it was meant to be. Now we have two beautiful kids who are at the center of our lives and inspire us everyday to be the best version of ourselves.
Let’s remember your engagement, tell us how he proposed to you?
We got engaged in Paris, on Pont des arts. We put one lock there one year before and he took me to the same place just to check if the lock was still there. Fonsi got down on one knee looked me in the eyes and asked me to marry him.
How has your life changed after getting married and having two children?
Our children are the most beautiful blessing we have. They came to complete our lives and fulfill it with unconditional love and endless laughs.
Very often the other halves of popular people completely dissolve in relationships, share your secret of how to preserve your inner core and not forget about your career?
I don’t really pay too much attention to what’s published or written about me or about us. My real life and inner peace is more important than anything else. I read things that are not necessarily true about us but I brush them off, good or bad. Those things don’t phase me because I don’t take anything personally and nothing of the kind can affect my life or my mood. My family is my equator and that’s where I get my strength from. They give me the peace and stability I need to pursue my dreams.
You travel a lot, do you have a place of power?
Greece is my place of power. This country brings me joy and peace. I can’t even describe how happy I am when I’m in Greece.
The media write about your studies for kabbalah, tell us how you changed internally after you decided to connect your life with it?
I’m a firm believer that things happen when they need to happen. Having said that, the only thing I would change would be starting to study Kabbalah earlier in my life. Kabbalah changed everything. The way I accept things that are out of my control, not letting other people’s opinion affect me, see everything as a blessing and an opportunity to grow. I learned how to be a pro-active person, take responsibility and be the cause of everything happening in my life, not the effect. As far as success, when you have the light of the creator as your «business partner», what could possibly go wrong?
Are there other places on Earth that you would like to visit and why?
I would love to visit Africa, I want to show my kids wild life as it is. I don’t like zoos at all. For me it’s cruel to have wild animals in cages.
Let’s talk about your shoot for the cover of L’Officiel Latvia Fashion News, tell us how and where it took place? At the legendary Villa Versace?
The shoot took place at the former Versace Mansion. For me, an admirer of Gianni Versace, it was very touching to celebrate fashion for L’officiel where he lived and died.
You look incredible not only on the catwalk but also in everyday life, tell us about your favorite designers?
I have a few! For street style I love Alexander Wang and Prada. For nice evenings I love Versace, Dolce and my dearest friend Juana Martín.
Would you like to try your hand at a music career and perhaps record a hit together with your husband?
No!!! I love music and I love to sing… just in the shower… But God didn’t bless me with that talent. I’ll let my husband do the singing.
What do you dream about now?
My goal in life is to impact in a positive way the life of others. I know all the blessings I received are for me to give back. I hope God gives me the opportunity to fulfill my dream.
