Starring in the deliciously acidic Palm Royale, alongside Kristen Wiig, Laura Dern and&nbsp;Kaia Gerber, the singer proves to be an excellent actor: funny, touching, elegant. Just like his exquisite presence during an interview with&nbsp;L'OFFICIEL.

Set in Florida at the end of the 60s, between&nbsp;sociological turmoil&nbsp;and&nbsp;the reign of appearances, this&nbsp;charming mini-series, a distant cousin of&nbsp;Desperate Housewives,&nbsp;admirably acted,&nbsp;neat&nbsp;down to the slightest lamp and down to the most invisible skirt hem, is a welcome spring (peppery) treat. In this comedy of appearances, twirling a ball of ambitions and lies,&nbsp;Ricky Martin&nbsp;excels in a complex role. With a kindness that was never lacking, he answered our questions.
L'OFFICIEL: What attracted you to this project?
I love stories that have a social impact and make people think. This is a comedy, but&nbsp;rather a tragicomedy with issues that can touch the audience.
LO: Did you recognize yourself in the character?
Everyone has secrets, or has gone through moments with low self-esteem, everyone has wanted to be part of a world that you have nothing to do with. I like to play, because for me it's like therapy, an analysis, I confront my emotions. I put myself in the characters' shoes, it's like medicine! So, to answer you, yes, I'm very vulnerable, being myself. I come from a very expansive, Latin world, but sometimes I needed to protect myself because I was afraid of what people would think of me. Today, I'm comfortable in my own skin, but this kind of role reminded me how hard it could have been at another time in my life.
LO: The cast is absolutely incredible, did you rehearse a lot? The interaction between the characters feels so natural and spontaneous...
Not at all. We'd just rehearse our lines in the make-up room, discussing our characters. The directors gave us the freedom to express ourselves, to transcribe our proposals during the shooting.
LO: Has your singing career influenced your work as an actor?
To the extent that you have to learn to live in the moment, yes. When you're in front of 20,000 people or 100 on a movie set, you feel the same fear, the same uncertainty of doing the right thing. At the end of the day, it's always entertainment, whether it's a song or a series, and I'm so lucky to experience both careers with the same intensity, hoping I didn't do too badly...
LO: Do you think that this experience will, in turn, influence the rest of your career?
No doubt! After such an adventure, especially when it went so well, you're bound to want even more. That's kind of the story of the series: don't settle for what you have, but aspire to more and more... I'd like to get into producing, writing, or even directing, and maybe that will happen soon in terms of producing projects....
LO: Did you like not being in control of everything, whereas on stage, in the studio, you're the one who decides everything?
Totally. Between the moments you hear "action" and "cut," anything can happen. There is a great deal of freedom of expression. On stage, there are more constraints, you have to think about the lights, the musicians, etc. On set, there's a structure of course, but the freedom of expression is exhilarating.
LO: Did you have the freedom to improvise?
I learned something on this shoot: to leave the script in my dressing room, to be more flexible. The actresses I worked with, goddesses of improvisation, like Carol Burnett (an American television legend, editor's note),&nbsp;Kristen Wiig or Laura Dern, obviously you have to leave a little room for the unexpected, to leave the script aside.
LO: Did you do a lot of work on your character beforehand?
I've seen a lot of movies with Kristen Wiig and Laura Dern, shows with Carol Burnett. I worked a lot with my acting teacher. Above all, I focused on enjoying every moment of every day.
LO: How did you work on the styling of your character?
Hey, most of the time I'm half naked! But otherwise, yes, it was extraordinary to see the costume department unearthing period clothes (the end of the 60s, editor's note). God is in the details of this series. I loved my sandals.... Alas, I couldn't keep them!
