A new take on a classic: Chopard's Ice Cube watch returns after 30 years
Do you remember the legendary Ice Cube watch by Chopard? The one that made a splash in the late 90s? Well, they are back, and they came back triumphantly! The Swiss jewelry house presented a new version of this cult accessory, and, we must say, it looks as fresh and modern as the original three decades ago.
“The Ice Cube watch has long embodied Chopard’s bold attitude, defying preconceived notions of design with its new geometric precision and modern elegance. We decided to bring it back today to recognise and celebrate its timeless freshness and innovative spirit. This re-edition in ethical gold is the ideal balance of innovation and tradition,” says Caroline Scheufele, Chopard’s Co-President and Artistic Director.
This watch revolutionized the world of jewelry watches. Its dial and bezel, set with asher-cut diamonds, create a stunning illusion of ice cubes. Chopard's master watchmakers have worked hard to perfect the technique of setting the stones.
There are two models in the new collection. The first is a luxurious secret watch resembling a cascade of ice cubes dipped in gold and diamonds. This masterpiece was worked on by the talented jewelry designer Coralie, who managed not only to recreate the original design, but also to apply it to a whole series of jewelry, including a choker and a cuff bracelet.
The second model is an exact copy of the original 1999 watch, a copy of which, incidentally, is kept in the Chopard Museum in Geneva. The 25 mm diameter case is fully decorated with asher-cut diamonds, and the bright blue hands contrast spectacularly with the icy background of the dial. An elegant alligator strap completes the look.
And, most importantly for the modern buyer, all new Ice Cube models are created in ethical gold, a practice that Chopard has implemented for all of its watches and jewelry since 2018. Now that's what we call responsible luxury.
