Actresses, CHANEL ambassadors and icons of their generation, Lily-Rose Depp, Margaret Qualley
and Whitney Peak are the heroines of the new CHANEL 22 bag campaign. Presented for the first
time at the Spring-Summer 2022 Ready-to-Wear show, the latest CHANEL bag is featured in a series of photos and films directed by Inez & Vinoodh.

From Los Angeles and Palm Springs to New York, Lily-Rose Depp, Margaret Qualley and Whitney&nbsp;Peak evolve within three singular visual universes, scripted like veritable summaries of their own&nbsp;personalities.

&nbsp;

&ldquo;We were given the opportunity to create three completely different stories with three completely&nbsp;different women and set out to create three stories that would show a lesser known side of each&nbsp;woman,&rdquo; says the photographic duo Inez &amp; Vinoodh. &ldquo;Researching and diving into their worlds was&nbsp;very inspiring for us.&rdquo;

Inez &amp; Vinoodh developed a story based on&nbsp;Whitney Peak&rsquo;s tastes, personality and life. By exploring&nbsp;her social media and talking to her, they were able to&nbsp;delve into her world and give their interpretation of what&nbsp;her typical day would be like. A key word stands out:&nbsp;friendship. It&rsquo;s the most important thing to Whitney Peak.&nbsp;And that&rsquo;s the main idea of the film, the simple joys&nbsp;of being surrounded by those you love. The film features&nbsp;views over New York City, animated images,&nbsp;snapshots of life, a swirl of pop culture references&nbsp;and cinematic codes to better understand the essence&nbsp;of the CHANEL 22 bag.

&ldquo;Looking at Whitney Peak&rsquo;s Instagram and having a conversation&nbsp;with her together with Katie Silberman, it became clear that&nbsp;what she cares most about are her closest relationships.&nbsp;Her story is centered around friendship. The film is all about this night&nbsp;out with her friends, having a good time, making their own fun,&nbsp;not necessarily stepping out into the glamorous life but valuing&nbsp;a true connection amongst themselves&rdquo;&nbsp;Inez &amp; Vinoodh

Firmly anchored in its time, the CHANEL 22 bag&nbsp;beats to the rhythm of now. Functional and light,&nbsp;it has an obvious simplicity and comfort. Made from&nbsp;extremely supple yet resistant leather, it is presented&nbsp;here in a pink quilted leather version, with a metal&nbsp;chain interlaced with leather and the &ldquo;CHANEL&rdquo; signature&nbsp;in gold letters. The House&rsquo;s latest creation is an instant&nbsp;object of desire.

Inez &amp; Vinoodh drew inspiration from the clich&eacute;s&nbsp;surrounding the figure of the femme fatale who talks about&nbsp;herself in the third person. The duo brought out&nbsp;the humour and intelligence of Lily-Rose Depp, who lends&nbsp;herself to short vignette-like scenes while embodying&nbsp;the self-effacing voice-over. Without any narrative&nbsp;continuity, it&rsquo;s a stream of images, motifs and drawings in black and white or in colour. A duality that reflects&nbsp;her own double culture.

&ldquo;With Lily-Rose Depp, one of the main points for us was the fact that&nbsp;she has an American father and a French mother and seeing how she&nbsp;internalizes the combination of the two&nbsp; cultures. The idea of identity&nbsp;and finding where you belong was very much at the center of her story.&nbsp;She takes herself quite seriously and at the same time is able to make fun&nbsp;of herself with so much humor. It is a tongue-in-cheek story of a young&nbsp;Hollywood femme fatale that talks about herself at the third person.&rdquo;&nbsp;Inez &amp; Vinoodh

&ldquo;These images are, for me, an ode to the marriage between my identities&nbsp;as a Parisian and a Los Angeleno. I&rsquo;ve known Inez &amp; Vinoodh for&nbsp;a few years now and so, knowing me, I think they did a beautiful job&nbsp;at creating scenes and scenarios that help my personality shine through.&nbsp;They were also very inspired by Veronica Lake for the shoot, someone&nbsp;who&rsquo;s inspired me my whole life.&rdquo;&nbsp;Lily-Rose Depp

A veritable object of desire, the CHANEL 22 bag&nbsp;appears in this film as two versions: white with black&nbsp;&ldquo;CHANEL&rdquo; letters and black with white letters.&nbsp;The new design from the House adheres profoundly&nbsp;to the CHANEL codes &mdash; the emblematic quilted leather,&nbsp;a &ldquo;CHANEL Paris&rdquo; medallion with its openwork double C,&nbsp;the metal chain interlaced with leather, the black and white&nbsp;so dear to Mademoiselle &mdash; all while carving out&nbsp;its own path. Modern and refined, it encapsulates&nbsp;the creative energy of the House.

&ldquo;The bag is beautiful, timeless and practical! The inside of my bag&nbsp;always looks like I&rsquo;ve stuffed my entire life in it, and so I love that&nbsp;this bag has space to carry books, notebooks, makeup, whatever your heart desires. I also think it&rsquo;s so chic that it makes any&nbsp;outfit feel much more special! To create this micro-drama that turns the spotlight&nbsp;on Margaret Qualley&rsquo;s personality, Inez &amp; Vinoodh chose&nbsp;to focus on her childhood in Montana and to highlight&nbsp;her strong connection with nature. They show the contrast&nbsp;between nature and culture, between her life as a young&nbsp;actress and her need for calm and serenity, between&nbsp;the city and the desert, skyscrapers and cacti, subway&nbsp;stations and horseback riding. Punctuated&nbsp;with a gently humorous voice-over, the day passes by&nbsp;and the effervescence subsides. The inner turmoil&nbsp;is tamed. Nature takes over, majestic and implacable.

&ldquo;When we spoke to Margaret, we saw her as this girl that really&nbsp;needs the Earth, and feeling the Earth beneath her feet in order to feel&nbsp;grounded and part of this world. She was super touched that we clocked&nbsp;on this aspect of her personality as people tend to make her look&nbsp;very glamorous, glitzy, and serious and that&rsquo;s actually not her.&nbsp;She&rsquo;s very funny and quirky. She has a tremendous humor and is always&nbsp;fast and frantic but this quiet side of her is really necessary.&rdquo;&nbsp;

&ldquo;Inez &amp; Vinoodh are constantly working. They&rsquo;re always flying&nbsp;from one place to the next and work long hours to meet deadlines.&nbsp;But they also have this deep desire to be present and connect with what&nbsp;matters to them. I think they see that same drive in me and also some&nbsp;of the damaging effects it can have. They know how I can get stuck in&nbsp;my head and drive myself crazy. It was a real gift to do a shoot that was&nbsp;all about getting back to the earth. It&rsquo;s like okay, she won&rsquo;t stop working,&nbsp;fine, so how about we make the project about stopping working!&rdquo;
