In an open letter published on Instagram, John Galliano announced his farewell to Maison Margiela. “Today is the day I say goodbye to Maison Margiela,” wrote the British designer. “My heart is overflowing with joy and gratitude and my soul is smiling.” “Today marks 14 years of sobriety,” Galliano continued, speaking about his personal life, ”Living a life better than I ever dreamt possible."

“Everyone wants to know, and everyone wants to dream. When the time comes, all will be known. In the meantime, I take this moment to express my immense gratitude. I continue to redeem myself and I will never stop dreaming. I need to dream too.” He seems to be anticipating his next role as creative director, which will indeed be “dreaming,” in his words.

Galliano expressed deep gratitude to his team, as well as the muses who inspire him in everything he does. “You are my life. I want to celebrate the collections we've created and the support they've found, the movies and shows we've created. They all focus on diversity, individuality, gender equality in the workplace, anti-racism and mental health. This is a time when the family - the fashion industry - is at its best. Look at what we've built.”

Renzo Rosso, the Chairman of OTB Group, said that “working with John has been one of the most meaningful and important experiences of my life. He was my mentor and showed me his vision, enriching me culturally and allowing me to bring some of that vision and culture to the rest of the group.” The entrepreneur, who heads one of the largest luxury goods clusters, which in addition to Maison Margiela includes Diesel, MM6, Marni, Jil Sander and Viktor & Rolf, said he felt “privileged to work with two legends like Martin and John.” Martin has made the house a benchmark and icon, John the most avant-garde couture house in the world. Over the past 10 years, he, the Maison Margiela team and the entire group have worked together to create the magic and write the fundamental chapter of this unique fashion house.”
