Jessica Tatievski: Redefining the Art of Collecting

In the dynamic art market, where tradition and creativity intersect, Jessica Tatievski has established herself as a distinguishing force. An international art advisor at Neue Projects who divides her professional time between Berlin and New York is transforming the concept of collecting art through purposeful curation and seeking exceptional pieces with emotional resonance. With a global network at her disposal, Jessica is not just helping her clients acquire art—she's shaping cultural legacies.

A Journey from Business to the Art World

Jessica spent her early years in Berlin, a city filled with culture, from the Philharmonia to museums, opera, and art foundations. She laughs as she remembers how little enthusiasm she showed when her family frequently brought her to museums as a child. "Thankfully, that moment has passed. I developed my affinity for art and began actively visiting exhibitions and exploring art institutions wherever I was. It became an obssession."

Jessica initially pursued a business career where she worked at startups, yet she felt empty, as if she did not belong. While studying for her Master's in Management at IE Business School, she experienced an epiphany: "I kept searching within my industry for that deep sense of purpose, but then I thought—maybe I'm looking in the wrong place. I remember visiting The Rubell Museum in Miami in 2018 when Allison Zuckerman was an artist-in-residence. I had this overwhelming feeling of belonging as the art I immersed myself in left a lasting impression. That was when I knew I needed to be part of the art world."

After gaining multiple experiences in different parts of the art market, Jessica discovered her passion for art advising by building tailor-made art collections that reflect each collector's personality and journey.

The Magic of Art Advising

Jessica defines art advising as a role that creates lasting impact beyond the monetary transaction. She expressed her fondness for observing how each sale generates a ripple effect. Artists gain the freedom to pursue new creations, galleries maintain their infrastructure to discover and exhibit artists, and collectors get to own artworks that move them. It's a continuous cycle of supporting the larger ecosystem.

She emphasizes that collecting is an emotional journey that should be guided by intuition rather than market speculation. "Every artwork carries an energy. I always encourage collectors to trust their instincts—if a piece resonates deeply, that's the right acquisition."

Advice for Aspiring Art Advisors

Breaking into the art world can be daunting, but Jessica believes that to overcome its challenging nature, one needs to immerse oneself. "Start somewhere—anywhere. Start working at galleries, museums, or auction houses. Each experience will help you understand where you fit in."

Jessica notes that the art market is vast, with many career paths one could pursue. "Some people start in galleries and realize they want to curate, others discover a passion for advising, and some decide the industry isn't for them. The best way to know where you stand is through experience."

And her top tip? "Find a mentor. Learning from someone at the top of their field will guide you through the complexities of the industry."

Artists and Galleries on Her Radar

Jessica's list of favorite artists constantly evolves, but some names currently capturing her attention include Lucy Dodd, Markus Amm, Amorelle Jacox, Deshaun Price, Hayley Tompkins, Nora Turato, and Leonardo Meoni.

When it comes to galleries, she has a global perspective. "In New York, I regularly visit Management, Matthew Brown, David Zwirner, 52 Walker, Hauser & Wirth, Kasmin, and Karma. In London, I love going to White Cube, Thaddaeus Ropac, and Herald St. You'll find me in Berlin at Sprüth Magers, Esther Schipper, or Heidi. As you can tell, I spend most of my time looking at art."

Dream Acquisitions

If money were no object, Jessica's dream collection would be impressive. "This is dangerous because I'd buy so much art," she jokes. "But I'd love to own "Cupid and Psyche" by Anthony van Dyck—it's mesmerizing. A "Nymphéas" by Monet, a multi-panel abstraction by Joan Mitchell, a Composition by Mondrian, and Mark Rothko's "Seagram Murals" that Tate Modern exhibits. I would never leave my home if these works graced my walls."

A Vision for the Future

Jessica Tatievski is more than an art advisor: she's a tastemaker, a cultural connector, and a storyteller. With every collection she builds, she aims to curate personal experiences filled with emotions and legacies. And in an art world that thrives on individuality, she's bringing something refreshingly unique to the table.
