L&rsquo;Officiel had the pleasure of interviewing Renata Gubayeva, a Ukrainian model that is currently based in New York.&nbsp;During her career, she worked for many well-known brands, such as Shiseido, Maybelline, Estee Lauder, Schwarzkopf, R+co, as well as featured in Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, and l'Officiel repeatedly.

Being in the industry for over ten years, she has been signed and worked with top agencies worldwide: Women and Muse in the United States, IMG in Milan, PRM London, and Metropolitan Paris. She also received multiple contracts in Japan, South Korea, China, and Indonesia.
Upon her arrival in New York, she became the face of Club Monaco and became easily recognizable in the industry with her curly bob haircut.

How did you start your career?
I was scouted by Elite model world contest when I was 13 and immediately signed with an agency that worked internationally. I was young, but I remember being very excited to be on stage or in front of the camera. It felt natural.

Was it your dream to become a model?
I loved the idea of being a model and was thrilled when I received my first contract to work in Japan. However, my parents insisted that I finish university in Ukraine before making a significant decision, so I always had to balance my work/ study routine. I couldn't take too many trips until graduation. But after, I decided that I'd love to have it as a primary career.

I'm sure you worked with many great photographers and designers, any projects you are particularly proud of?
The absolute favorite part of my job is the chance to work with the most talented creatives in the industry, like celebrity photographers Brian Ziff and Kat Irlin. It's flattering to realize that one day they can shoot the album cover for the Weekend and Grimes or create magazine covers with Cindy Crawford, Adrian Brody, or Helena Christensen. And then, the next day, they cast me to work together on set too.

It's hard not to notice the creative approach to your work. Is it something your agents worked on specifically?
Thanks so much. As long as I remember myself, I loved painting and photography as a way of creating new worlds. And being a model also means directing the environment and final image through the posing and emotions you give. For me, fashion was always about art. I remember, as a kid, one of my biggest childhood trauma was the passing of Alexander McQueen, my family was pretty confused about it, but in my eyes, it meant losing one of the most important artists in the industry. I still feel the same way about it.&nbsp;

Thank you for sharing.&nbsp;How do you see yourself five years from now?
Still doing what I love! Building stronger connections with brands and talents in the field. I'm very happy with my achievements at the moment but this industry constantly evolves and offers new opportunities for how I can develop myself and grow with it.

Any tips on maintaining in shape?
I'm pretty lucky to inherit my mom's body type. She is naturally thin and never restricts herself. But I still enjoy maintaining good shape through regular gym visits. And honestly, healthy food does taste better to me.

What about skincare?
It's very personal for everyone, depending on their skin type. But I discovered the less-the-better system works great for me. It's about finding what works for you and makes your skin most comfortable. I don't really believe in 9-10-14 steps skincare routine. But hey, if it works for you - I love it! Again, everyone is so different.&nbsp;

This industry can be overwhelming, so it's important not to lose your personality. It's the most valuable thing about you. And, of course, having a great attitude and being nice to people you work with.
