4 Healthy Twists On Your Standard Coffee
Matcha latte
Matcha has been present in Japanese culture for centuries, but has now also pretty much conquered the rest of the world. Matcha is full of antioxidants, which ensures a stable blood sugar level. In addition, the tea also contains L-theanine, which has a calming and stress-relieving effect. Best of all, it also makes you more awake and alert without the drawbacks of coffee that some people experience.
You can buy matcha powder online or in a health food store. You also need a matcha beater and a ball bowl. Put the powder in the bowl, add some hot water and beat the matcha until there are no chunks left. Now add steamed or warm milk for a tasty matcha latte.
Tip: Do you find the taste of matcha too bitter? Then add a spoonful of agave syrup or honey to your latte.
Golden Milk
Golden milk is a drink based on turmeric. Turmeric has been used in Indian medicine for centuries for its healing properties, including anti-inflammatory and cholesterol-lowering ones.
The golden milk spice mix consists of lots of turmeric, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger and a little black pepper. You can again buy pre-made turmeric herbs to add to warm milk. If you prefer to make it yourself, here is the recipe. For 1 cup, heat 300 ml of milk, add the spice mix and a dash of honey. Enjoy and relax.
Beetroot Latte
Beetroot has a number of benefits such as increasing endurance and lowering blood pressure. It is also packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
Cut a half or a whole beetroot into small pieces (determine the amount to your own taste). Then mix almond milk, a tablespoon of ginger, cinnamon and honey together with the beetroot and blend into a fine mass.
Chai Latte
Chai latte is a heartwarming drink originating from South Asia based on black tea with milk and many spices such as cinnamon, ginger, cardamom and cloves. You can make your own chai spice mix or buy a pre-made mix such as Chalo or Baru.
For 1 cup of chai, put a tea bag of black tea in 100 ml of hot water and let it steep for a while. Then heat 150 ml of plant-based milk (almond milk tastes good here), or you can froth it with a milk frother. Now add the tea and milk together with the chai spices and finish with a pinch of cinnamon.
