In this interview for L&rsquo;Officiel Baltic, Hong Lin opens up about her journey, her inspirations, and what it truly means to be a modern muse in 2025.

L'O: You&rsquo;ve worked with some of the biggest names in the industry. How would you describe your journey so far?
It&rsquo;s been a dream realized, though not without its unseen hurdles. Modeling, like any creative career, moves with the tides of the market. There are moments of abundance and moments of quiet. Learning to navigate both has taught me resilience, patience, and how to stay grounded through it all. I&rsquo;ve wanted to model since my first year of college, but this industry isn&rsquo;t one you simply step into &mdash; it demands persistence, balance, and a lot of heart. Juggling school and modeling proved to be a challenge, so I chose to finish my degree first. When I eventually stepped in full-time, I came in with a stronger sense of self, a better grasp of professionalism, and a genuine respect for building lasting relationships with clients.
L'O: Was there a turning point in your career?
The real turning point came when I began a new chapter with FORD Models. I submitted to them in 2020, just before graduating from Parsons. One of their directors replied with an email that began with &ldquo;unfortunately.&rdquo; I saved his contact anyway, and over time we stayed in touch. A few years later, after gaining more experience, I returned to the FORD office &mdash; but this time, the conversation was different. We decided to move forward together &mdash; a new partnership, a new image, and a renewed sense of purpose. That moment marked the beginning of a more grounded and defined chapter in my career.
L'O: What sets you apart as a model in today&rsquo;s fashion landscape?
No model is ever the same &mdash; each of us brings a distinct energy and story to the image. My background in music, art, and design shaped the way I see &mdash; composition, rhythm, emotion. Parsons refined that vision, teaching me to approach fashion as a dialogue between art and identity. What sets me apart is my creative eye. I approach modeling as storytelling &mdash; translating concept into emotion and connecting the visual with the emotional. On set, I love building that language together with the team.

L'O: You&rsquo;ve been described as part of a new wave of Asian representation in fashion. What does that mean to you?
It honestly feels surreal but also empowering. For me, representation isn&rsquo;t just about how we look; it&rsquo;s about reshaping fashion through diverse stories and perspectives. If my work can help open even a few more doors for others, that&rsquo;s the part that means the most to me.
L'O: How do you hope your work influences perceptions of Asian creatives in the global industry?
Asian influence in fashion isn&rsquo;t new &mdash; Japanese designers have long reshaped the global landscape. But now we&rsquo;re entering another wave, led by a new generation of Asian models and creatives who bring layered cultural perspectives and unique creative voices. I never thought of my work as &ldquo;influencing&rdquo; others, but it&rsquo;s my pleasure if it does. Seeing more of us recognized not as a category, but as a creative force shaping the industry, is deeply meaningful.
L'O: Do you think the industry has made progress in diversity and inclusion?
There has been real progress &mdash; more visibility, more stories from different perspectives, and more diversity in front of and behind the camera. But visibility alone isn&rsquo;t the finish line.
L'O: Who or what inspires your style and creativity?
I&rsquo;m rarely inspired by one person &mdash; it&rsquo;s more like fragments of creativity I collect along the way. I save them in a photo album on my phone: a look from a creator, a campaign frame, an editorial moment from a stylist. The people I work with move me the most; there&rsquo;s something about the energy on set that constantly reshapes how I see style. My style reflects my inner self at each stage of life. When I was younger, I loved to experiment with hair colors, silhouettes, moods. Now, it&rsquo;s about honesty. What I wear feels less like a performance and more like a reflection of who I am.

L'O: How do you balance high fashion with personal expression, especially on social media?
High fashion is more of an artistic expression, while social media feels intimate &mdash; a space to play with different personas. I love Jean Paul Gaultier, but I&rsquo;m also the biggest Harry Potter fan and have rewatched Miyazaki films countless times. There&rsquo;s a shelf of Jellycats at home, even though my closet leans toward Khaite and The Row. I don&rsquo;t really &ldquo;balance&rdquo; the two &mdash; I blend everything onto the canvas. Social media lets me show the humor and softness behind editorials, while high fashion gives space for artistic expression. Together, they tell a fuller, more honest story of who I am.
L'O: You often collaborate with both luxury houses and emerging labels. What draws you to a brand or project?
Creative direction and the emotion behind the concept. I love when a brand&rsquo;s vision feels honest and intentional, not just aesthetic. Visuals can captivate, but the values behind them create real connection.
L'O: As someone who connects strongly with Gen Z audiences, how do you view the relationship between fashion and digital culture today?
They coexist. The digital era accelerates everything &mdash; trends, micro-trends, even the way ideas circulate. What&rsquo;s more interesting is how authorship has shifted. Creators today aren&rsquo;t just reflecting fashion; we shape it in real time. Social media gives creators new ways to express perspective &mdash; through images, storytelling, tone, and rhythm.
L'O: What projects or goals excite you right now?
I&rsquo;m working on my &ldquo;what I want to leave behind in 2025&rdquo; list. My biggest New Year&rsquo;s resolution is passing my CFA exam &mdash; stressful, not exciting. Creatively, I&rsquo;m passionate about my social media series,&nbsp;Inside My Orbit. It&rsquo;s a continuous project where I share day-to-day life as a creator and small personal moments, like a visual journal &mdash; real, unfiltered, and evolving with me.

L'O: How do you care for yourself mentally and creatively in such a fast-paced industry?
Stay grounded. This industry moves fast &mdash; one day you&rsquo;re in, the next day out. I see it as a journey rather than something to control. There are ups and downs, and I&rsquo;ve had my share of emotional rollercoasters. But growing means learning to hold steady. Modeling is a job, and keeping work and life separate is what keeps me sane and inspired.
L'O: How would you define &ldquo;a modern muse&rdquo; in 2025?
A modern muse could be anything &mdash; it&rsquo;s not just a person.. To me, it isn&rsquo;t about being idolized; it&rsquo;s about being in tune with yourself. The muse isn&rsquo;t a figure anymore &mdash; it&rsquo;s a state of being.
