CHANEL opened a new flagship boutique in Beverly Hills, California. The four-story building, designed by architect Peter Marino, a long-time collaborator of the House, is a complete expression of the world of CHANEL, including Fashion, Watches &amp; Fine Jewelry, and Fragrance &amp; Beauty. Spanning over 30,000 square feet, it is the largest CHANEL boutique in the United States.

After more than a decade at the House&rsquo;s Rodeo Drive location, the Beverly Hills boutique has been rebuilt from the ground up. A celebration of CHANEL&rsquo;s past, present, and future, the new, expanded boutique is housed in an abstracted exterior reminiscent of a staggered cube, cleaved by a multi-story glass atrium and clad in white crystallized glass.

Upon entry, customers discover a pure white space punctuated by thin vitrines and glass cases displaying fine jewelry, bags, fragrances, and other accessories. The ground floor is a play on the House&rsquo;s emblematic two-tone: optic white plaster met with cast bronze, woven textiles, gray wave stone, and low dark tables in petrified wood and resin by Ado Chale and Jean-Claude Dresse, over which hang glowing Goossens chandeliers rendered in rock crystal. Straight ahead is the courtyard, whose trees and hedges are enclosed by the building on three sides. This central green space provides sunlight to every level of the boutique through floor to ceiling windows, as well as a point of entry for those entering through the private parking space behind the building.
The first floor is divided into unique yet complementary pursuits: upon entry, handbags and accessories are found to the left of the atrium, a dedicated Watches &amp; Fine Jewelry Salon sits to the right, and behind the accessories salon there is a dedicated Fragrance and Beauty section. As visitors ascend the open atrium staircase there is a sense of escaping the noise of the city, and immersing oneself in the House&rsquo;s vision as it unfolds from one floor to the next. On the second level, shoes and Ready-to-Wear are displayed, on the third, two VIP suites and try-on rooms, and on the fourth, a rooftop garden and penthouse. Design treasures intrinsic to CHANEL&rsquo;s codes and sensibility populate the space: black and gold lacquered Japanese Kurodana cabinets from the Edo period sit alongside a contemporary coffee table by Ingrid Donat, while a pair of &ldquo;Tweed&rdquo; lamps by Delos &amp; Ubiedo speak to the House&rsquo;s taste and the elegant, multi-dimensional decorating style preferred by Mademoiselle Chanel.
At the top of the boutique, the rooftop space&rsquo;s black framed aluminum trellises echo the outlines of the city&rsquo;s fabled Case Study Houses, and enthrone an exclusive, private environment, perfect for the House&rsquo;s Los Angeles events and VIP clientele. This area connects seamlessly to the penthouse, and boasts views of the garden courtyard, Rodeo Drive, Brighton Way, and the glittering hills above.

The House&rsquo;s close alignment with the art world is on full display in the new Beverly Hills boutique. The pleasure of honouring these artists, and commissioning special pieces in collaboration with CHANEL, is emblematic of Peter Marino&rsquo;s work. No matter where it is located, every CHANEL boutique reserves a special place for art and for contemporary artists. The central feature of the four-story space is &ldquo;Golden Lasso,&rdquo; 2023, a commissioned sculptural work by French contemporary artist Jean‐Michel Othoniel which cascades from the ceiling to the first floor, and is reminiscent of Mademoiselle Chanel&rsquo;s iconic pearl necklaces.
On the first floor, another commission by the House has pride of place in the lift lobby. Known for her poetic, blurred and distorted imagery, for CHANEL the Israeli artist Michal Rovner took inspiration from nature and turned her lens on the poppy flower, creating something altogether new, alluringly ambiguous, and abstract from its blooms and stalks.
The carefully curated artworks on display and their placements within the new Beverly Hills boutique complement the House&rsquo;s collections, in a gesture that speaks to the history of CHANEL as a purveyor of expert craft and timeless style and of its founder, Mademoiselle Chanel, as a patron of the arts.

The boutique will open with the Spring-Summer 2023 Ready-to-Wear collection designed by Creative Director Virginie Viard that debuted in Paris in October. Inspired by Alain Resnais&rsquo; surrealist 1961 film&nbsp;Last Year at Marienbad, a defining work of the French New Wave for which Gabrielle Chanel designed most of the costumes, Viard&rsquo;s celebrated new collection takes on the idea of &ldquo;allure&rdquo; while staying true to Mademoiselle Chanel&rsquo;s foundational belief in designing for freedom of movement. A rainbow of pastel tweeds, enhanced with ribbons or ostrich feathers, rhinestone bedecked booties, featherweight suiting, cardigan jackets, and short coat dresses are showcased inside the boutique. Exquisite evening dresses are displayed in gold velvet panne, white lace, and light black chiffon; a wardrobe perfect for embodying the House&rsquo;s iconic allure in the California sun, all year long.
The Watches and Fine Jewelry salon will feature a large assortment of Haute Joaillerie and Haute Horlogerie creations that celebrate the exceptional savoir faire of the fine jewelry and watchmaking studios. Guests will also be able to discover the iconic and timeless J12, Premi&egrave;re, Code Coco and Boy&middot;Friend watches, as well as the emblematic Fine Jewelry collections such as Coco Crush, Cam&eacute;lia, Ruban, and N&deg;5.

To mark the reopening of the Beverly Hills boutique, CHANEL presents four exclusive collections redolent of the House&rsquo;s glamorous history in Hollywood: a Haute Joaillerie capsule collection, a Haute Horlogerie creation, a pair of sunglasses, and a set of CHANEL Le Vernis nail colours.

The Haute Joaillerie capsule collection, entitled &ldquo;Beverly Hills,&rdquo; draws its inspiration from the eye-catching sun and star motifs beloved by Mademoiselle Chanel. The &ldquo;Blazing Sun&rdquo; brooch features faceted yellow beryls to capture our biggest star at its zenith; the &ldquo;Pink Sunset&rdquo; ring, whose pink and yellow sapphires and orange garnets radiate out from an 8.03 carat pink sapphire at its center; the &ldquo;Lucky Star&rdquo; double ring, whose yellow gold, diamonds, yellow sapphires, black spinels, lacquer and enamel reference the iconic Walk of Fame; and glittering &ldquo;Rising Star&rdquo; earrings made of white gold, with dangling kite cut diamonds accented by sapphires in tones of pink and blue.

CHANEL has a long and storied history in Los Angeles: in 1931, legendary studio head Samuel Goldwyn set a legacy in motion when he asked Gabrielle Chanel to come to Hollywood and dress the actresses of the United Artists studio. After an ensuing near-century of dressing screen stars from around the world for some of their most indelible moments, the House has chosen Los Angeles for the presentation of the <a href="https://www.lofficielbaltic.com/fashion/chanel-travels-to-planet-hollywood-for-cruise-2024-show">Cruise 2023/24 collection</a> held on May 9, 2023.
