6 Spring Dress Trends to Revive Your Wardrobe

Metallics? For spring? Finally, something groundbreaking. Metallic tones are notoriously associated with fall wardrobes, but this spring season has called for a shakeup. Liquid metallic silver and gold hues appeared numerous times on the Spring/Summer 2023 runways from labels such as Valentino and Jason Wu, officially inserting itself as a must-know trend.

If 2022 forecasted anything, it's that fashion is calling for something sensual and sexy—such as sheer dresses. Sheer dresses were first revived on the Spring/Summer 2022 runways, followed by a continuous wave of celebrities donning the see-through style on red carpets. Proving that the trend is here to stay, the Spring/Summer 2023 collections included numerous sheer dresses, all styled and interpreted in distinct ways. (Not to mention celebrities such as Rihanna, Emily Ratajkowski, Ciara, Emma Chamberlain, and Olivia Rodrigo have already brought sheer dresses into 2023). 

Forget volume, this spring season is taking a page from the '90s and is all about embracing the column dress. In an era where more labels are pulling back by tapping into timeless styles and minimal aesthetics, column dresses could not have resurfaced at a more appropriate time. While the structured look exudes a certain level of formality (Givenchy), its simple silhouette provides an easy way for more casual styling. 

Animal prints are no stranger to showing up in the trend cycle, though, for this spring season, labels are taking a ride on the wild side by incorporating a range of animal motifs. Labels such as Gucci featured a chic tiger print, while Theophilio let snakeskin slither into the sexy collection. In able to provide a fashion-forward take on the trend, brands have incorporated animal prints on dresses with modern silhouettes and styles (such as column, sheer, and slip to name a few).

Cutout clothing has had various iterations throughout the years—from back to front to shoulder to legs and so on. As seen from the Spring/Summer 2023 runways, this season is all about side cutouts. The depth of the cutout is dependent upon the design. Chloé and Prabal Gurung kept it more subtle with smaller cutouts hugging the body. On the opposite end of the spectrum was Alexander McQueen who opted for extensive slashed motifs alongside the full length of the dress. Regardless of how much or little you prefer to show, there's nothing like showing off a little bit of skin all in the name of fashion. 

Bubble hems are not a common silhouette that appears in most seasons, making its return a surprising yet highly welcomed one. This spring, the divisive trend received a sophisticated update as the flouncy hemline is interpreted in a more subdued fashion. While the bubble hem trend still maintains its youthful appeal, labels like Molly Goddard and Valentino showed how the silhouette can be worn for a chic day-to-day look. Whether it's making the hemline less voluminous or playing around with styling such as a bubble hem dress over pants, the Spring/Summer 2023 runways proved that bubble hems can be refined too.
